Mays Trying To Find A Home

The Whitehaven offensive lineman, who holds offers from Memphis, Arkansas State, Western Kentucky and Southern Miss, visited the LSU and Arkansas camps last week. Next week, he'll visit the Arkansas State and Oklahoma camps.

"I like to go up there and do the one-on-ones and put my hands on somebody and see how I match up with other people and stuff," Tony Mays said.

Last month, Mays stopped by Starkville, Miss., for a Mississippi State but said he didn't receive an offer afterward.

"I don't have a top list, either," Mays said. "I'm just going through the process, trying to see where I feel most at home at."

Mays didn't rule out staying home to play for the University of Memphis but did hint at opting to play elsewhere.

"If I go to Memphis and I feel at home, with their coaches, players, I wouldn't mind staying at home," he said. "Then again, if I feel at home with another team that's out of town, I have to go. I have to go where I feel comfortable."

Mays said he's been in contact with U of M linebackers coach Galen Scott and Arkansas State's tight ends coach Maurice Harris.

Mays said he has no upcoming official visits and that he's just enjoying the ride of his recruitment. He acknowledged that he has to prepare a bit harder for the Division I level.

"I know when I go up to college it's a whole different level," he said. "If I start as a freshman, that's cool, but I know going to a D-1 level is a whole other thing. I plan on playing my freshman year but I don't know about starting. I've got a process to go through."
