The Briarcrest big man said his stock has risen on the AAU circuit this summer because of improved ball-handling and a better understanding of how to run the floor.
As a result, Austin Nichols said he's hearing from dozens of schools. He's currently got offers from Memphis, Auburn, Texas A&M, and most recently Clemson.
Just being a hometown kid, however, doesn't make Memphis his automatic favorite.
"A lot of people are telling me to go to Memphis, but I know the decision is mine so I'm just going to take my time through it," Nichols sad.
Nichols said he's also hearing from Ole Miss, Georgia, Virginia, and Florida State among others.
So what exactly is Nichols looking for in a school?
"(My decision will be based on) how good coaches are, who's going to be there when I go, and how much playing time I'd get," Nichols said. "It also depends on just the town and area it's around."
Nichols said he plans on visiting Clemson but has nothing else in the works.
For now, Nichols said he's focused on winning the Super Showcase later this week. Memphis YOMCA begins pool play Friday.
After playing with the Memphis YOMCA 17U's at the Peach Jam last weekend, Briarcrest's Austin Nichols will run with the 16's at the Orlando, Fla., Super Showcase, which starts Friday. Before Nichols and YOMCA left for Orlando, Nichols updated TigerAuthority on his recruitment.
