Alabama DE has top three

Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) senior defensive end John Youngblood said Wednesday he has a top three of Memphis, Arkansas State, and UAB.

Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) senior defensive end John Youngblood said Wednesday he has a top three of Memphis, Arkansas State, and UAB.

"I wish bigger schools would look, but the season's been going well," Youngblood said. "That's what matters for right now. Schools will see I've been playing well against good schools."

Youngblood said he likes the Tigers because of his relationship with defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator Mike DuBose.

"He's a real good guy," Youngblood said. "I like what they're trying to do with the program, because they do need to get it straightened out. I like the facilities and everything."

Youngblood said he's waiting to see if the Tigers can build upon their second win of the season, which came last weekend against Tulane.

"I do think me coming would help them, which would contribute to building on a better season," Youngblood said. "I do understand that. … I do know that I would have to be part of that process to trigger a winning season."

Youngblood has taken a few unofficial visits to Arkansas State — he was in attendance for the Red Wolves' 47-3 victory over Memphis earlier this season — but he hasn't scheduled any official visits yet.

He said he'll most likely wait until the season is over before he makes a decision.

Youngblood said his stance on the depth chart is most important to him, along with what the city has to offer.

"I'd have to like the school and the town in general," Youngblood said. "Football is only a fourth of the year. … I do like Memphis, though, because they have a big city and there'd be a lot of stuff to do there."
