Memphis University School senior offensive lineman Nick Vergos wasn't recruited by the former staff at the University of Memphis, but the new staff, headed by coach Justin Fuente, has given him a few options.

After a couple of unofficial trips to campus this weekend, Vergos was given two separate scenarios in which he can play at Memphis. Vergos can either enroll in the summer as an unrecruited walk-on – meaning he can't take an official visit and that Fuente can't visit his school to recruit him – and earn a scholarship in camp, or take a greyshirt year and not enroll until next January.

Should he go the greyshirt route, Vergos will not count against the 2012 class. Both options hinge upon how many recruits Fuente signs in this year's recruiting class.

Vergos, rated a 2-star prospect by Scout, will take an official visit to Richmond this weekend. He said by then he'll know for certain what he'll do after that.

The MUS product said he was impressed with Fuente's confidence this weekend.

"He's very energetic and he knows what he wants," Vergos said. "He wants hard-nosed, dedicated football players. I think Coach Fuente has all the tools he needs to turn the program around."

Vergos said the Tigers are at or near the top of his list because of Fuente and his offensive scheme.

"I really like the fast pace," Vergos said. "He can wear down defenses as the game goes on. It fits my strength, because I'm a smaller, quicker and more athletic lineman."
