In his first practice as the coach at the University of Memphis, Justin Fuente said he was encouraged by his players' willingness to buckle down and get to work.
On running his first practice as a head coach:
It was fun. There were a few moments in there where I was wanting to be a position coach, but I tried to let those guys do their jobs. It’s sometimes hard for me not to butt in. I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed it. The kids don’t fully understand yet, but they’re really trying.”
On who is standing out so far in practices:
There are a couple guys who stand out. (Wide receiver Kevin) Wright, I thought, looked very natural. Its hard to decide anything or judge anything on lineman or anything like that. There’s a few guys you watch and say, That seemed pretty easy for him. Then there’s guys that they’ve got the techniques that just don’t get it yet.”
“The kids were excited to practice. They were ready to get out there and go to work. They got a little tired at the end because the way we practice is a little different and they had to push through.”
