For one Canada athlete his first trip to an American University was much better than he ever imagine.

Frontenac SS High School offensive lineman from Kingston Ontario Arran Macrae journeyed south on Friday to take in his first unofficial visit to an American University, he chose his first visit to be at the University of Memphis.

“It was awesome,” MacRae told TigerAuthority.com. “I was very impressed with Memphis. The campus is very nice, the facilities are incredible. It’s a huge step up from what I have seen from Canadian Universities.”

MacRae, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound lineman who runs a 4.9 forty, got the chance to meet several of the Memphis coaches.

“I got the chance to meet Coach (Justin) Fuente, he was great,” MacRae said. “He asked me if I had ever been fishing, said it was a popular thing to do down in the south.”

MacRae also got the chance to meet the offensive and defensive coordinators.

“They were all great coaches,” MacRae said. “They were all very personable. I really like everyone’s confidence and their plans on turning things around in their program. Memphis definitely appears to be headed in the right direction.”

While MacRae didn’t leave the Bluff City with an official offer, he feels that one could be in the future.

“No they didn’t offer me today,” MacRae said. “They definitely seemed very interested in me. They want me to come to one of their camps or to come back for another visit in the fall.”

MacRae and his father flew into Memphis and rented a car and took the time to check out the city.

“We drove around the city a lot today,” MacRae said. “Everything was really pretty, it was very unique and had a lot of character to it.”

What left the biggest impression on the visitor from Canada?

“By far Memphis’ facilities,” MacRae said. Memphis has the biggest weight room I have ever seen. It was enormous. I had to take a photo of it to show all my friends back home, I was so amazed by their facilities. They are so much better than anything you find back in Canada.”

MacRae now will travel to Oxford, Mississippi to take in the Rebels Spring Game before heading back home north of the border.

“Oh I will definitely will be back,” MacRae said. “Memphis is definitely one of my early favorites.”
