Jermaine Antoine evaluation

Jermaine "J.J." Antoine

Senior prospect Jermaine Antoine was versatile and valuable during his Loreauville career...

Jermaine Antoine was a true multi-purpose player at perennial small-school playoff program Loreauville. Antoine wore many hats during his tenure with the Tigers: RB, DB, WR and KR.

As a senior, Antoine rushed for 1,200 yards in 12 games with approximately 35 total touchdowns. He averaged more than 10 yards per carry and was named Offensive MVP in a district that included Catholic-New Iberia stars Joe Lissard and Gabe Fuselier.

He was the Lafayette-area's 4th-leading rusher and No. 14 receiver during the regular season, according to AcadianaPostgame.com.

Antoine (5-11 to 6-0, 190-to-195-lbs.) bulked up for his senior campaign without losing any speed. The primary criticism of Antoine has been a 4.7 40-yard dash he clocked at a National Underclassmen Combine event, although he's one of those players who is fast enough on Friday nights. He appears closer to 4.60 speed than 4.70 when pads are donned and the game is on the line.

He garnered serious early interest from Texas A&M, which made a preliminary offer. Antoine has the grades but needs to increase his test score by a slight margin. He reports consistent recent interest from TCU and North Texas. The local Ragin' Cajuns have kept in contact.

Although Antoine says TCU wants him as a receiver, it's possible he'll project as a safety. He possesses the strength, frame and aggression to excel on defense. However, his ability to make things happen with the ball cannot be overlooked.

Antoine returned numerous kicks and punts for touchdowns during his prep career. He has above-average vision and is quick, if not fast. Prior to this year Antoine was primarily known as a receiver on offense.
