Franklin finds home at Tulane

Jarrod Franklin

University Lab 2013 safety Jarrod Franklin got an offer from Tulane a couple of weeks ago, and he pulled the trigger today during a phone conversation with Green Wave head coach Curtis Johnson...

Jarrod Franklin recounted the events surrounding his commitment to Tulane.

"I was talking to Coach Johnson and he was telling me how good the school is academically and how they're building up the football program," Franklin said. "Coach Johnson said he doesn't redshirt freshman, so I have a chance to come in and play right away if I work hard.

"I've been to Tulane's campus a couple of times but it was non-recruiting related, a little more distant in the past. I'm taking my official visit the 11th through the 13th (January). I know they've endured hard times but there's good days are ahead for Tulane football."

Franklin was also recruited by Tulane assistant David Johnson.

"They offered two weeks ago after the coaches saw my playoff game against Evangel and the (U.S. Army) Red Stick Bowl," he said. "The Tulane coaches said I was all over the field in the Evangel game.

"It came down to Tulane and Houston. I've always liked Tulane. When I committed I think Coach Johnson was kinda shocked. I don't think he was expecting it. I told him I had something to tell him - that I was ready - and he said that was great."

Franklin notched 113 tackles and intercepted four passes as a senior for University Lab (U-High), which reached the Class 2A semifinals.

U-High head coach Chad Mahaffey described Franklin as a "laser" during a 2012 preseason interview.
