Q&A With
Shawne Williams
Scout.com #11 Overall
Five-Star forward Shawne Williams
inked with Memphis this past week. Formerly of Hamilton High School in Memphis,
Williams spent the last year at Laurinburg Prep in North Carolina. His coach
at Laurinburg, Chris Chaney, gives this assessment of Shawne: "He's 6'8"
and can play shooting guard or small forward. He has a good shooting touch and
is an excellent, excellent passer, so there's a lot of things he can do on the
court. We had him a little bit last year, during second semester and we've been
working with him about using his mind on the court, not just his athletic ability.
He's actually very smart."
Here are a few excerpts from our
conversation with Shawne Williams.
Q: Why did you pick Memphis?
A: It was the place I wanted to be.
Q: What is the best part of your
game?
A: My passing. Seeing the open player
in the open court is what I do best. I shoot to, so I can do a lot of things
good.
Q: What do you need to work on?
A: My strength. I need to get stronger
for when I have to take it inside.
Q: What other colleges were you
considering?
A: None. Memphis was the only college
I looked at and the NBA was my second option.
Q: At this point, do you think
you'll be at Memphis next year?
A: Oh yeah.
Q: What do you think your recruiting
class can accomplish at Memphis?
A: A championship. Within the next
two years we should be able to have one.
